Groovin' On A Sunday Afternoon....

I had a whole post worked out in my head about this track and how the original is one of my all time favourite songs and performances. A couple of pints of Guinness later and a decent pub roast and I'm kicking back with a cuppa, probably heading for a snooze.

So, one of those times when the music needs to do the talking I think.

The Young Rascals - Groovin'
Booker T & The MGs - Groovin'
Marvin Gaye - Groovin'
Willie Mitchell - Groovin'
Aretha Franklin - Groovin'

The Young Rascals version is one of those songs that reminds me of my childhood but I've never had my own copy so thanks for that.

Altogether now "You and me and Leslie..."

Oh, great song. I don't think I know any of the cover versions other than Aretha's. Odd, since at one point I was collecting songs with variations of of the word groove in the title.

Now for the covers post of Gene Chandler's Groovy Situation, the best groovin' number of them all.

Lulu recorded a gorgeous version in 1973, which The Rascals played on. She also did a storming version of A Boy (Girl) Like You at the same sessions.
