Random Play: Xanadu

Well, the shuffle on my iTunes seems to be hitting the summer of 1980 at the moment. Xanadu by Olivia Newton John and the Electric Light Orchestra.

I love this, big shiny pop music. Makes me think of hanging out with my old school friends for one last summer before we all went off to our secondary schools. The last summer before everything changed.

oh dear. This is one of those songs that I just have never been able to listen to....

It was exactly the sort of thing new wave was supposed to wipe out forever (as Mr Lloyd Cole has since written, we were The Young Idealists...).

Just please tell me you'll never post Horace Wimp......

Don't worry, when it comes to ELO it's only the big shiny pop music that gets a play. The rest of the stuff makes my head hurt and reminds me of hospital waiting areas for some reason and that feeling of pain mixed with boredom.....

The part where Jeff Lynne and the chorus go 'now we are here' has to be one of the all-time cringe-making moments ever. What's wrong with 'Mr Blue Sky' and 'Livin' Thing'? Simon, Simon...tut tut.
P.S. The film was Gene Kelly's last, was it not? Took this pop combination to finish the old bugger off.
P.P.S. What's 'Xandadu'? Is that a better song? If so, why didn't you upload that? I think we should be told ;-))

Mr Blue Sky and Living Thing are the other shiny pop moments that I like!

And as for Xandadu....dunno what you're talking about!
