Random soul: Vee Gees - Talkin'

I got given a home burnt compilation not so long ago. This track was on it. I have no idea who the Vee Gees were/are. I know this came out in about 1974 and was on the Jump Off label. That's it, the track has travelled down from some original source like a lost treasure.

But it's fantastic.

Just listen to that groove, the guitars and the harmonies. It's a little bit Philly. But it's quite trippy, those layered harmonies and the almost bluesy guitars take it off in some other direction. Musically it almost reminds me of Orange Juice...And in the centre is a great vocal. Really rich and lush.

Whatever. It's damn damn good.

Vee Gees - Talkin'

(anybody got any more information?)

Like you coudn't find anything other than the label and recording date. Try Darce and say I sent you - he's good on this stuff, and knows others who are too...

You are right, the guitar does sound a bit like Orange Juice.

I have never heard of this before but I like it. Some googling has turned up no background save for the fact that the group may have come from North Carolina.
You can see label scans on Popsike if that sort of thing does it for you (it does for me!).
This is evidently a rare one consistently making around £200 when it comes up for sale it seems. Also Popsike shows that this was not their only single.
(I could take my anorak off now but it’s so cold I think I’ll keep it on).

It kind of sounds a bit demo-y to my ears, there's something a bit ramshackle about the whole track.

Oh Yeah, Kevan Tynes sung and played drums, and Carlton Morales played guitar with THE MIGHTY MAJORS in the 1970's. Linco records,Jump Off,Gate City,House of Big Brother, etc.,were all connected to Walter Grady and/or George Bishop. After Morales left Julian Lennon's band,He went back with The Mighty Majors.Carlton Morales and Kevan Tynes wrote, copywrited, and recorded many songs together. Google KEVAN TYNES or Carlton Morales.
