How many editions did Ska 80 run to I wonder? And how many have you got, Harrington boy?
I've none of those precious little artifacts: no smash hits, no flexi-pop, no old NMEs or Melody Maker or Sounds, none of my old fanzines. All went in the great purge when I left home. My mum wanted the space; I didn't want to move them. BIN.
The things I threw out......
I know exactly how you feel - I had a big ring-bound folder of Smash Hits from 1979-81 and a few NMEs from about 1982 until only about two years ago when I said my old man could chuck 'em. This was before the blog, and now I think of all the great little pieces I could have done there with them. This is, of course, one of the (great many) reasons why we need Miss Ally and the shoebox of Orange Juice clippings under her bed.
Whenever a blog uses some old Smash Hits clippings I get a bit nostalgic. And sit there thinking: bastard! I had that one!
