I managed to be under the radar for the first group of takedowns that were hitting seemingly everybody else. I had a visit from the 'web sheriff' asking politely to take something down but that was all.
This week I've had FOUR removals. To be honest it doesn't bother me that much, the thought of some big corporation scanning the web looking for these things. Copyright law is copyright law, like it or not. And that's a whole blog worth of thought and argument right there.
What does bother me is the fact that two of the tracks removed are pretty rare. You can't buy them, so nobody's sales are being affected. Which leads me to believe, (because anybody can make a complaint and get your post removed, it doesn't have to be a big corporation bullying us little folk)that it was actually some collector worrying about the value of his/her collection being affected by the availability of a tune.
Yup that's right. I think it was somebody just like me. One of the little folk.
And that's really sad.
(Any more removals may just lead to the blog disappearing. Blogger do that from time to time. If that happens don't panic. Take note of my blog list to the right and keep an eye open on their comments. I'll be back if my pages do a disappearing act.....)

Crazy - wonder how many takedowns are allowed before they pull the plug ? I best start backing mine up
I've been backing mine up for some time now, so I haven't lost anything.
I'm not sure what would cause the plug to be pulled. A blog I used to follow had quite a fight going on over takedown notices and was around for a really long time before it was removed. I guess it depends on whether or not it goes further than a notice.
some evil blighter just goes straight to box net to get rid of stuff they don't like - so far it's sheila b devotion and soft cell. it annoys the hell out of me they don't just tell me and let me do it. ah never mind eh. like you say if it all goes bad just start again. keep on keeping on maestro

ps
how do you do this backing up business then ?
Well, in my case it's not proper backing up, just the writing. I set the blog settings so that it shows all posts at once, instead of say 7. Then select all and paste into a word document.
It's only the writing I'm interested in keeping in my case. Especially those knocked out in 5 minute wonders that turn into my best posts.
Somebody else may have a more 'technical' wonder to capture the contents of a blog...
..select all...then copy...and paste into a word document...
Actually what that misses out on is the comments. Anybody technical able to give lessons on saving all, including the comments?
Simon: Check out the comments here for directions ob backing up on Blogger:

ThankS!!
I've just run this today - my total of over 230 blog posts and they only take up 3Mb incredible!
I've had about a dozen posts DMCAed. Happily, I have backed up (Save As in Firefox saves pages as they are. Keeps links intact as well).
I'm in the process of moving to Wordpress in the hope that they don't stroke The Man's shaft as spinelessly as Blogger do. Just don't have anyone tell me how Google are so fuzzy and ethical. They are not.
Buggeration!!! i've just come from giving a despairing Ed at 17 Seconds a friendly talking to, and now you!!! This is taking the piss. Please, Simon, carry on backing up, and do what I do: after bending over and taking it over the Beatles, I found a new way (if you know what I mean) and I've never had a day's trouble with my subterfuge. I'll say the same thing to you as I said to him: blog disappearing? Don't be so bloody daft ;-))
Alright Steve, how you doing?
I'm fine, it's annoying, but I'll live. Had two more posts removed last night, somebody has been busy.
I am probably going to be ducking down for a couple of weeks though, thanks to Christmas. And I may just follow the example of Mister Dude there and Adam and Suzy Roman Empress and head west to the WP. They seem to be a bit more receptive on the support front.
You should be able to set up 'comment notification' in your blogger profile, and it will email every comment to you when it arrives so you effectively have them 'backed up' for yourself in your email account. Not quite the same as having the comments backed up, I know. Even if posts have been locked up or taken down I think you can still look at them on google reader (I'm not exactly sure how but someone 'rescued' a load of my older posts when I got my second dmca notice at wordpress and they locked me down) but again that doesn't let you see the comments.
